Recipe: Blackening Rub

Are you a sucker for the spicy goodness of blackened chicken? What about grilled shrimp? Oh, I can’t forget about fish tacos! Fish tacos are the best, especially when they are coated with the right blackened seasoning. I love it when I can taste the smoky paprika and then feel the cayenne sneak up on my taste buds just in time for another bite.

Making blackened foods at home never seemed to work out for me. That’s because the pre-packaged mixes from the grocery store lacked the certain oomph I craved. Then my husband, the hero, saved the day. He created a simple blackening rub from ingredients we always have in our spice rack. The seasoning in this mix was just the right amount of smoke and heat.

Tonight we used it to make a Blackened Shrimp with Penne Alfredo. It was delicious! Now, I can’t wait to try it on fish tacos!

This is the recipe to try if you’re looking a simple yet flavorful blackening rub. You can mix it together in a matter of minutes. In fact, it takes longer to grab the ingredients from the spice rack than it does to mix up the rub. Best of all, you can forget all about the stale pre-packaged shaker bottles from the grocery store.
